July 13th, 2016 - Arlington, VA:  Lunarline CEO Waylon Krush spoke to FedScoop about the explosive power outage that took down several critical systems at the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) over Christmas, 2015.  This fiery Christmas surprise blow doors off hinges, obliterated power management systems and took down backups. While the PTO's successful execution of its Continuity of Operations (COOP) plan received praise, the event still took out online systems vital to patent filing, forcing a reversion to paper-based processes.

"It is fair to say they are still partying like it is 1999,” Mr Krush said in reference to the legacy infrastructure brought down during the event. “Many legacy systems are very difficult if not possible to recover after a significant event happens like a major power outage. The USPTO was lucky they were able to find the spare parts and even more lucky it had staff to make the fixes."
