Lunarline’s Vulnerability Scan Converter Powers Penetration Testing and FedRAMP Cost Savings
Arlington, VA, Jan. 31, 2014 — Lunarline today announced the results of a three month pilot program designed to drive down the cost of security assessments, including FedRAMP-accreditation, DIACAP, FISMA compliance and penetration testing. Using the Vulnerability Scan Converter (VSC) – a tool developed by Lunarline’s Products Team – Lunarline was able to reduce the cost of some security assessments by nearly 1/3rd over the three month pilot period.
VSC compiles scan results provided by common vulnerability scanning tools, including Nessus, WebInspect, AppDetective, Nmap and others. VSC then automatically outputs a comprehensive report that consolidates and prioritizes scan results for quick, easy analysis.
“The Vulnerability Scan Converter highlights Lunarline’s approach to innovation,” said Mark Haase, the Lunarline Program Manager responsible for the company’s portfolio of innovative products. “For us at Lunarline, innovation is about delivering focused capabilities, tailored to specific requirements that efficiently solve common cyber security challenges.”
According to Mr. Haase, the company approaches innovation from an engineer’s perspective. “It’s requirements-driven, it’s carefully planned and it's rolled out in a way that facilitates, rather than disrupts, day-to-day operations,” he added.
VSC is designed to eliminate hours of manual effort typically involved in preparing vulnerability scan reports. It automatically compiles results into a report that's complete and ready for analysis. In addition to providing detailed information on all vulnerabilities, the program also builds in risk level indicators and other useful data that helps security professionals develop actionable recommendations.
Matt Xenakis, the Lunarline Program Manager responsible for the company’s technical testing engagements, has used the VSC program to streamline his penetration testing efforts.
“VSC has made a big improvement in our penetration testing efficiency,” says Xenakis. “By cutting out all that tedious leg work, VSC gives our analysts more time to actually investigate vulnerabilities -- a much more productive use of our time, and our clients’ money.”
Lunarline’s FedRAMP Program Manager Alan Yuriditsky echoed Mr. Xenakis, stating that he too has used VSC to drive assessment efficiency.
“A FedRAMP assessment has a lot of moving parts,” he says. “VSC helps us streamline FedRAMP assessments. We're able to get work done more quickly, and our clients love that.”
